Northern England cabaret requires fresh talent

Casting no. 43239 - Leeds, UK

Skewed Circus is looking for enthusiastic artists/performers over 18 to join them

Skewed Circus is the brand new concept in popular entertainment brought to you by Komedy Kollective, updating an age-old circus theme with freshly, visually appealing attractions.
For artists specifically based in Yorkshire, Manchester, Lancashire, and Merseyside (not Southern England, Scotland, Wales, or the Planet Neptune - we cannot pay accommodation let alone travel expenses or relocation - sorry!), we provide networking opportunities, and a chance to test out new material with enthusiastic student-friendly audiences. Artists/performers must be over the age of 18, and must not be allergic to strobe lighting, unfortunately, as we perform in licenced premises particularly nightclubs.
Experience isn't necessarily essential. Enthusiasm is paramount.
We offer attractive, well publicised performance opportunities for fire-eaters, other stunt artists, clowns, "strange dancers (a la John Cleese)", musicians, eclectic DJs, sketch performers, bands, vocalists, and just anything distinctive that would work well in an offbeat club format.
We are also looking for offbeat Mighty Boosh/League of Gents-style acts to collaborate with, plus stand-up comedians of a distinctively anarchistic, socially conscious, left of centre variety perhaps the next Mark Thomas, Bill Hicks, or Mark Steel ie. comedians who don't rely on weak jokes, worn stereotypes, and making fun of minorities, but, instead, create their own modern, unique style of humour which creates a fresh, upbeat take on life, as yet, unexplored.
We're not just after political comedians. Apolitical stand-up acts such as "the next Frank Sidebottom" would be much appreciated. It doesn't even have to make sense. Something meaningless, pointless, and totally strange (in a dadaist sense) might work totally well in our cabaret nights.
Face painters who will work for no charge (or perhaps who will work totally on commission, charging audiences for their services, will also be very much welcome, as will individuals or organisations offering assistance (without charge) in ensuring our events run smoothly, and successfully reach out to new audiences, showcasing new (and, as yet, undiscovered talent).
In enlisting performers to Skewed Circus, quality not infamy, is the only factor we are looking for.
As a not-for-profit act, we (for the immediate future at least) cannot guarantee there will be any payment (or even expenses paid), however the Komedy Kollective, through Skewed Circus, offer excellent development opportunities for up-and-coming performers to showcase their talents to the wider world.
Check out our website ("clicking on all the top red links"), please, conjure up, in your imagination, what the Skewed Circus might look like, and what it will look like with your contribution, and, if you imagine your presence would enhance our comedic and master-plan, get in touch, and help our darkly twisted nouveau-circusesque dreams come true.
Please apply now to take part or for more information.
