The Angel (song - electro/ethereal)
William Blake's poem "The Angel". Vocal improvisation with Celtic feel, layered with some synths.
Influences: Sarah Vaughan, Anathema, Klaus Badelt, Cecilia Bartoli, Mari Boine, Tchaikovsky, Clannad, Dream Theater, Martin Gore, Kari Rueslåtten, Sting, Tony Levin, Marcus Miller, Rachmaninoff, Seal, Riverdance
Current lead singer of Celtic Illusion - the Irish dance, music and magic show, actively touring. Active independent solo recording artist. Session vocalist and coach. Have been and am involved with countless side-projects and bands of all genres (from death-metal to children's musicals) - life's too short to be bored :)
Some people say, my music/voice reminded them of Enya and Lisa Gerrard, but I heard, maybe, a couple of pieces from each of these artists. Shame on me :) Favourite music: Kari Rueslatten, Dream Theater, Amorphis, The Gathering, Anathema, Sarah Vaughan, Marcus Miller, Tony Levin, The Riverdance, Klaus Badelt, Cecilia Bartoli, Joe Hisaishi, Garmarna, Rob Martino, Martin Lee Gore, PJ Harvey, Seal, 8mm... Loads of jazz, trip-hop, doom, prog, ethno, classical, medieval and soundtracks.
Prior to moving to Australia I've given away most of my gear. All I own now is Korg electropiano, a few condenser mics (Rode, AKG, Blue Yeti), Line6 TonePort UX2 (let's face it, it's basically a vintage artefact at this point), a random dizi flute to annoy loud neighbours — that's pretty much it for now. I plan to purchase a bass (perhaps, a Chapman stick instead? *sigh*) and a Celtic harp in the foreseeable future. I play pretty much anything decently enough to satisfy my recording needs, but for live gigs — only vocals and keys.
Definitely, a PC person. Nuendo, Studio One, Audition, Sonar are my DAWs of choice for different tasks.
At the moment I'm very interested in writing soundtracks/score music for films and computer games. If you're a student or an independent game/filmmaker — hit me up! I'd love to participate in something mutually beneficial, to gain experience in this particular field of music production.
Melbourne based only — I've had my share of remote collaborations, it was lots of fun, some are still ongoing, but at this stage of life I need some people to communicate with in real-time. I expect to be involved with all stages of writing and production (not just the vocals), and have equal input from all project members. Nothing can replace the magic that happens sometimes, when you're all together in one space and bounce ideas off of each other, right? :)
My ideal band would play some fusion of prog-metal, heavy trip-hop with Celtic, classical and jazz influences — Dream Theater meets Portishead meets The Riverdance :) High level of instrumentalism, personal and musical maturity of band members and their general coolness would be nice to begin with.
While in the long run I'm looking for an original project, working with a cover band is an option. In that case I'd prefer to stick with jazz, soul, funk, lounge. Your singer fell stricken with illness, and you have a gig or two? Let me know, learning new stuff is easy (recorded or sheet music), we may need a rehearsal or two, though.
