What do Instagram engagement rates mean?

If you’re interested in Influencers roles, knowing your Instagram engagement rate is a must. Your engagement rate is a measure of how interested your followers are in your posts and how much they interact with your Instagram account.

It is not a measure of how many followers you have. In fact, even Instagram accounts with large followings can have low engagement. Do your followers regularly like, comment and share your posts? Then your engagement rate is likely to be high.

Brands and casting professionals looking to work with Influencers will want to know your engagement rate, and the better it is, the more likely you are to book the job!

We’ve broken our engagement rate scores into four ratings. These are industry standard and give you an idea of the level of engagement you can expect from Instagram.

As mentioned earlier, even accounts with lots of followers may have low engagement. There are a number of different things you can do to help improve this, including posting regularly (for example once a day) and making sure to always reply to comments and comment on other people’s photos.

A good engagement rate is generally around the 2% mark and means you’re doing Instagram right! If you’d like to improve your engagement rate consider what posts of yours get the most interest and try and post more photos or videos in the same vein.

An engagement rate of 3% and above is considered great, as it shows your followers are interested in your posts. To take things to the next level, you may want to spend some more time asking your followers questions to spark conversations and interacting more with other Instagram accounts.

If your Instagram engagement rate is higher than 4%, give yourself a pat on the back! Your followers are super engaged and interested in your posts, regularly commenting, sharing and liking your photos.
