Based in Asturias, on the northern coast of Spain, Moving On performs original, musical and participatory shows especially written and designed for Spanish students of English. The work we do is in State High Schools, Primary schools, Adult Education Centres and private schools. We perform all over Spain in organised local tours.
We are offering employment from September 2019 to tour and perform our two shows: 1 for Secondary and 1 for Primary, throughout Spain. The chosen candidate will receive full training in our unique style of physical performance combined with comedy and music, and get hands-on experience of Spain, not as a toursist, and of all aspects of touring theatre. We perform over 200 shows on each tour to teenagers, children and adults, giving us plenty of time to develop a range of stage and performance skills difficult to acquire in any other work.
SALARY - good salary with accommodation included!
The net monthly salary including free accommodation in a fully-equipped apartment is 1100 euros.
The flight to Spain to begin the contract is paid for by the company. Spanish Social Security and taxes are paid for by the company over and above the net salary. The first 6 weeks of the contract are for fully-paid rehearsal and training. If the chosen candidate needs it, an intensive course in Spanish will be provided in this period.
All the shows that we produce are “two-handers”, male and female, and are performed entirely in English. The shows are all highly participatory, using many techniques common to Cabaret or Commedia dell’arte in order to animate and encourage the audience. There is no “fourth wall”, and every show takes place in a context within which the audience has a role: e.g. in a restaurant where the audience are the clients; in an airport where the audience are waiting to catch flights. The shows are comical and fast-moving. They involve rock music, songs and the active and total participation of the audience. The objective of our shows is not so much to teach English, but rather to motivate and enthuse. The audience, and ourselves, must have a good time.
Spain is a dynamic and varied country. If you tour with us you will see what appears to be 12 countries in one. For the duration of the contract, you will have your own rent-free apartment in Gijon, Asturias, to which you will return when not travelling. Gijon is a city on the northern coast of Spain that offers incredible beaches, amazing mountains, lovely food and a great, safe nightlife.
Audition / Rehearsal / Production datesAUDITIONS - Auditions will be held in Asturias throughout June 2019. Candidates previously interviewed through Skype will be provided with flight and accomodation to come and visit us here, audition and get a taste of where and how we live.
REHEARSALS - Rehearsals will begin at the beginning of September 2019. The tour will begin mid October and will run to 31st May 2020. Holidays coincide with school holidays: 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week at Easter and any bank holiday weekends.
