I am the writer/director of this project. In the past, I've been involved in the making of several films through ArtsEd, the BFI Future Film Academy, London Film Academy and a number of shorts with Django Pinter (the producer of this film). This is the second time I will have both written and directed (following on from 'That's All' which was filmed in June 2019). This script means so much to me - it explores and unpicks so many subjects that I, and I'm sure you, regularly encounter in life.

First of all, it is the story of two women. I find human relationships so interesting... so much of the way we relate with one another is animalistic, despite our huge efforts as a society to be otherwise. In my script I study a female relationship, between mother and daughter Lily and Dianne. Within the dialogue you see Lily and Dianne competing and fighting for control, despite the fact that what they are saying is predominantly affectionate. This passive aggression, however, is just a mask for two desperate, lonely and guilty people with a huge disconnect, unable to grow closer due to geography and other commitments. It is the story of two people who are victims to the cycle of life and the inevitable parting of family.

Secondly it is a study of parent/ child relationships and the issue of dependency. The script touches on the difficult balance that most encounter at middle age of trying to simultaneously raise your own family and support your parents. The balance of finding your own new identity and either maintaining or breaking the identity you were given as a child. And alongside these often the detachment that comes with the guilt of not managing to give your parents the due time and attention they deserve and so instead putting them in a box and and adding them to you weekly, monthly or in the case of Lily and Dianne, yearly check list.

Finally, the script explores the concept of empty nest syndrome and the conflicting feelings one has as a parent; the joy in watching your children fly the nest, and the loneliness and emptiness that comes with their being gone. And despite the fact that Lily has been through this and Dianne is approaching it the two women do not connect with their shared experience. Dianne instead says "You don't understand".

I am casting for the roles LILY and DIANNE.

Please apply and if we are interested we will send you a script to self tape, please look out for our communicating with you.

Lily lives alone in a big house in England. Her Daughter lives abroad with her family. Her husband has died. Lily is lonely, but rather than dwelling on it she has created coping mechanisms. When Dianne visits it is clear that she is desperate to be involved, childishly seeking Dianne's approval. She wouldn't want to ask for more of Dianne's time or attention as she doesn't want to intrude on the world Dianne has made, a world Lily respects...but she longs to be welcomed.

Female, aged 65 to 80

Dianne has met the stage in life where it is extremely difficult to manage giving due time and attention to everyone in her life; her own children have exams, her job sends her around the world and her mother lives alone in England, in a big house that is hard to manage and with a rapidly deteriorating mental health. No matter how hard Dianne tries to be on top of it all she can't quite get on top of any one thing and so feels a constant guilt that she has failed at it all.

Female, aged 35 to 45
