Actors Wanted for an Audio Play "Prime Rump and Avocado"

Queensland, Australia
Listed by View details

I’m looking for a team of EIGHT ACTORS, FOUR MALE and FOUR FEMALE, for an AUDIO PRODUCTION of my new work, PRIME RUMP AND AVOCADO.

**for information on how this production will be managed in light of COVID-19, refer to the bottom of this callout

I am producing this show with the impact of COVID-19 in mind. If produced in a responsible manner, I believe AUDIO PLAYS may help to address the 'theatre void', both for audiences and the makers who have been put out of work.

Currently I'm exploring avenues for presentation. These include a new online platform for the Anywhere Festival, and also an airing on 4ZZZ.

PRIME RUMP AND AVOCADO - “from one issue to another”

Prime Rump and Avocado, the people on the right, the people on the left.

This is a play about people, people taking sides in a broken world. It’s about Steph, a millennial, taken from the country at a young age to be brought up in the city. She left behind Ryan, a childhood friend who through the years formed his own worldview.

This is a show about a divide. The city and country are worlds apart, yet Steph and Ryan do not want to see it that way. Ryan’s friend Dave is radical, right-wing, aggrieved and vocal and always on his case. Steph’s friend Liz is exactly the same, yet pulling her toward the left.

Under duress, Steph and Ryan are separately thrust into confrontation. Their chance encounter re-ignites memories, something inside them flares. They realise they must cut a path toward one another, through the thicket of the world and its baggage.

There in a world where vegans invade farms and conservative leaders do nothing about climate change. There in a world becoming increasingly chaotic. Where kids feel like they have to tie themselves to train lines to make a difference. And where farmers refuse to acknowledge realities because they feel marginalised and alienated by the left.

In the midst of a climate-aggravated bushfire crisis, Steph and Ryan must make decisions, if they are at all to meet in the middle. If they work together they might salvage something, something they risk forever losing.

All EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST welcome, from ACTORS at either a student or professional level. Mobile number needed. Also a bio and paragraph explaining your interest in this show.

Auditions will run between the 6th and 8th of April (possibility for extension). Rehearsals to start soon after.

**INFORMATION related to COVID-19

This production will be an experiment in social distancing practice. Auditions will be conducted online on the Zoom platform. Rehearsals will also use this platform, unless the Cast requests otherwise.

I have contacted a recording studio and they have implemented Government restrictions in their business. Their studios allow for either 10 or 5 people to gather at once, with the 1.5m rule enforced. Face masks and other PPE are also available.

As health is a priority, this production will respect the concerns and wishes of each and every member. Further provisions will be implemented upon request.

Audition / Rehearsal / Production dates

To start after 8th April.

Job payment

This job is unpaid - This production is not intended for commercial gain. When a deal to present it is made, if this deal involves money, then I will draw up a contract for the Cast and Crew.

To Applicants for "Prime Rump and Avocado",

Thanks so much for applying for the advertised roles.

I created this callout in the middle of Scomo's phased lockdown rollout, somewhere between phase two and three.

A week ago it would have still been possible to hire a studio to record an audio play. Now gatherings of more than two are banned for all 'non-essential' activities. Regrettably I've had to call off this production, at least for the remainder of the lockdown.

I apologise for the lack of foresight. If in the future you'd be interested to take part in a production of this work, I would be happy to share the script with you now. If you'd like to offer feedback, or if you'd simply like to read it, then by all means send me a message and I'll send it out to you.

Sometime in the future I will be pursuing a production of this work. If you are interested in taking part, please keep in touch.

Thanks and regards,

Tim Horgan
