This film is based on the real life story of Sam (a musician/worker at a care home) and Edward Hardy (an elderly gentleman and musician) who suffers from dementia and resides in the care home that Sam works at. When Sam met Ed, Ed was facing the struggles of isolation, loneliness and emotional neglect all worsened by his dementia.

After talking to Ed about music, Sam discovered that Ed was a musician all his life who played in a jazz band for many many years. Sam then contacted his family who arranged for a keyboard to be brought into the home. A few weeks later the piano arrived at the home. Ed stood up and without any sheet music, he played multiple jazz tracks including Misty, Sweet Georgia Brown, The Lady is A Tramp and many more classics. Everybody was thrilled and in aw of how incredible Ed's playing was. He was incredilbly happy and clearly also overcome with excitement.

That night Sam posted an advert on Gumtree seeking musicians who were willing to visit the home to play music with Ed in a band setup. Inundated with replies from all over the UK, the home became a space where Ed could play and interact with other musicians as the rest of the residents would join to sing and dance along. This story attracted a lot of attention from local news with the BBC running the story on local and national TV.

The following morning a gentleman named David phoned the care home explaining that he had seen the news story. David turned out to be one of Ed's band members who explained that he and the rest of the band had no idea that Ed was still alive or living in the area. He was absolutely thrilled at the proposition of reuniting the band and seeing an old friend once again. David called up the other 2 members of the band and we arranged for them to come to the home to play with Ed.

When the band were reunited it was honestly magic - they shook hands in the most dearly way as they greeted each other and expressed how lovely it was to see one another again. The wives of each band member were also amongst the group as they too reminisced on the nights when the band would play in the town and village halls. They spoke about being the ones who would grab everyone on to the dance floor and start the dances.

The band setup with their original line up (Piano, trumpet, drums and guitar) and David called out "Ok everyone, Lady is a Tramp" - and just like that after more than 35 years apart, the band played an incredible rendition of the Sinatra classic.
The afternoon carried on like this, each of the band members calling out different tunes to which Ed would just pluck out of thin air and play flawlessly.

The whole experience was increidbly uplifting and a sentiment to music and the human spirit.

This is the basis of the story but there are so many more poerful stories and moments that will be told throughout, along with an ending that you wouldn't expect which becomes a tragic reminder of how much we tend to neglect people of the elder generation.

A short documentary piece was made on Vice which, over multiple platforms gathered a total of over 500 million views. We hope that the attention and success which this gained will carry over into the dramatsied film.

This film will be the short format used in promotion to obtain funding for the feature length.
