MATCH POINT follows two first generation Australians on their respective paths to the annual Badminton Championship, each fighting for the grand prize.

We are looking for actors to play the supporting roles in this short film - ranging from the protagonists siblings and parents, and actors to play Badminton coaches

This film explores how economic status can provide opportunity, or the lack thereof, as well as beautifully honouring the multifaceted nature of family dynamics and culture.

This project is being completed with 4th year Film and Television students at Swinburne University. The final film will be submitted to film festivals both nationally and internationally.

The owner of this listing has agreed to abide by local 'working with children' regulations. All minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Male Badminton Coach (Supporting Role)

Coach Stagg is a gruff older man but only has good intentions at heart. He’s been in the badminton industry for 30 years and a coach for 10, switching his path once his hips started aching. Stagg is all about tough love, the Aussie spirit, and being a ‘man’. While he’s a great coach, his one-track mind can be tough to gel with.

Indian Man - Mr. Sharma (Protagonist's Dad)

Vinod Sharma is a patriarchal figure, the head of the household, and a very successful radiologist. Mr Sharma came to Australia in pursuit of better opportunities and prides himself on creating a comfortable life, so much so, he can’t stand to see his son throw it all away for a hobby.

Deepika Sharma is a very spiritual woman despite her work in the sciences as a cardiologist. She’s deeply devoted to her religion and is a woman with a soft heart. But being raised in a different time and place, means she does hold some conservative views.

Asian-Australian Little Sibling (Supporting Role)

Jin is a quirky young kid with a lot of pride. Jin enjoys drawing, watching tv and eating anything sweet. They often spend time in the kitchen attempting to experiment with different sauces to make noodles taste better. Despite their young age, Jin understands the tough situation at home and does their best to help out their big brother when they can.

Asian Woman - Ai Chen (Protagonist's mother)

Ai came to Australia with her husband Li Chen for their honeymoon and fell in love with the place. Couple of years later, they settled down and Ai’s career as a badminton coach boomed. Unfortunately, her husband died after the birth of their second child and Ai soon fell ill with multiple sclerosis rendering her bedridden.

POC Female Badminton Coach

Coach Ocampo is a serious, outspoken and a very confident woman. Her signature look is a tight long ponytail. She’s passionate about the survival of the club she works at and the nothing brings her more joy than the success of the athletes she trains. Ocampo isn’t one to take chances, but when she sees true potential, she does all she can to nurture that talent.
