Setting: The film is set in an office elevator where our two characters are placed in air-tight proximity.
Plot: Benjamin is waiting patiently for the office lift, like every morning, until the lift opens and reveals his work crush Jessica standing alone inside. Thrown into the deep end, he tries to act cool and make a good first impression but his nerves get the better of him and he stumbles his words at the very beginning of their encounter. Throughout the film, Ben grills himself in his inner monologue expressed through a voiceover. Eventually, he gets another shot at talking to her when she starts eating a tin of Heinz Chilli Baked Beanz, the same meal Benjamin ate for breakfast that morning.
But just before he builds up the courage to talk to her, he feels a monstrous build-up of gas brewing in his bowels, caused by his leguminous breakfast. He tries desperately to suppress his fart but struggles immensely. The lift begins to feel ridiculously slow and Benjamin realises that he is about to hotbox his crush in his own flatulence. Just as he is about to relinquish his gas, the doors open to his floor - with a crowd waiting outside - and SHE rips a massive fart.
The crowd are repulsed and scowl at Jessica, who is frozen and beetroot red with embarrassment. Benjamin, completely stunned, stares at her with confusion until breaking a smile and letting out an even fatter one.
Jessica’s embarrassment fades away and the two stare at each other for a moment before dropping their belongings and passionately making out. The elevator doors close.
Where the film will be seen:
It will be posted online via YouTube, Vimeo, the Swinburne University Archive and my forthcoming website as well as being entered, and hopefully accepted, into a variety of short film festivals.
I have been making films since I was 6 and since then I have made tens of short films, some accepted into film festivals and/or receiving notable awards, as well as working with a plethora of industry professional directors, producers, cinematographers and advertising and marketing experts. Currently, I am a student filmmaker studying pursuing a scholarship for a Bachelor of Film and Television (Honours) at Swinburne University.
