Teenage Vertigo

After learning he's about to become a father, an immature and self-absorbed teenager spends the day fighting the responsibility that he'll inevitably have to face.

Teenage Vertigo is a black and white, coming of age drama following Fylo Waye, a naive and arrogant 19-year-old, who begins his day with the revelation that he is going to become a father. Throughout this life changing day we follow him making pit stop after pit stop in an attempt to run away from his looming problem and continue in his carefree ways.

However, he slowly learns that running away isn’t as easy as he thought and instead will need to confront his flaws and mistakes in order to begin the journey of becoming who he needs to be.

Teenage Vertigo is an indie mumblecore feature.

Successful applicants will be contacted about sending in a self tape, with auditions to come after lockdown restrictions are eased.

Tai

A gentle giant of a Maori, Tai is Fylo’s kind-hearted and comedic drug dealer. Although he may seem intimidating to strangers, he is a wise and gentle soul and one of the most genuine and funny people Fylo knows. When he’s not running from the cops, he can be found stoned, playing GTA or taking care of his many turtles that he lets roam free around his house.

Male, aged 20 to 30

  • Ethnicity: Māori
  • Accents: Maori, New Zealand

Applications closed 14 October 2021.

Kevin

An unconventional and distant dad, Kevin fathered Fylo and his sister in a parenting style closer to that of Blackie Dammet instead of Tom Hanks, viewing his children more like mates. Just like Fylo he too was a young father and despite what his son tells him, he believes he’s done right by his kids their entire lives. Childish in nature and harbouring a self-righteous attitude, Kevin is a sobering reminder to Fylo how similar they are and how he could turn out.

Male, aged 40 to 50

  • Ethnicity: White / Caucasian
