(DIS)CONNECT focuses on Sam, a typical University student. She is introduced to social media and becomes obsessed with it as she uses it as an escape from the educational pressure from her parents. Over the course of the film, her obsession only gets worse as her relationships with her parents and friends begin to crumble and her education continues to slump. Her perception of reality becomes clouded with a misguided view of reality which leads to her having to take action to break the obsession to salvage the broken relationships.

The character Mike acts as Sam’s one true support system. He understands that her parents are strict and that she really isn’t happy at all. He spends his screen time trying to help her. He also has to deal with a sort of burden of her obsession since he was the one that introduced her to social media.
