“There’s Food at Home'' is a short absurdist drama following 22 year old Olive and her navigation through life after moving out of home. Exploring themes of family, self perseverance and the ever relatable coming-of-age struggle. Olive is trying her best to keep up with the mundane tasks of everyday life, whilst working full time at a restaurant, studying full time, and learning the complexities of adulthood. During a phone conversation with her mum, she confesses feelings of regret, as she reflects on simpler times as a child when she didn’t realise how good she had it. It’s hard when you have to be your own parent.
STYLE OF FILM
The entire film will have a voice over of an intimate yet candid phone conversation between Olive and her Mum. There will be no spoken dialogue on screen. Olive’s Mum is a voice only roll. The visuals, compared to the dialogue will be non-linear, just a collection of Olive going about her daily life/routine. A combination of sustained tableau shots, detail shots, candid and fluid handheld camera work of the viewer peering into Olives world and how she floats through it. Honest, humorous, intentionally non dramatic, but visually beautiful, in a simplistic franc way.
This is a student film but payment will be negotiable with the right talent. Travel expenses covered and catering provided, as well as BTS shots from the shoot and a digital copy of the film upon completion
